Brisbane Islands

morton island

Morton Island
Moreton Island (20,000 hectares) is the world's second largest sand island. Though mostly national park, it includes several small villages, expansive beaches, freshwater lakes and a 'coloured sand desert'.

Sand taboggan mammoth dunes, hand feed wild dolphins or tackle excellent four wheel drive exploring tracks. A whole additional world also awaits beneath the surface with scuba diving and snorkelling available.

north stradbroke island

North Stradbroke Island
North Stradbroke is the largest of Moreton Bay's islands, covering 27,530 hectares. Affectionately referred to as 'Straddie', the elongated sand island of North Stradbroke shields much of the southern part of Moreton Bay and the smaller islands from the ocean swells.

Points of interest include the old quarantine station at Dunwich; Main Beach on the eastern side, with extensive Aboriginal shell middens; and Blue Lake, Brown Lake and Keyhole Lakes for freshwater swimming. There is whale watching from Point Lookout during winter and there is good surfing throughout the year near Point Lookout. The ideal way to see the Island is by Four Wheel Drive.

st helena island

St Helena Island
St Helena Island houses the historic ruins of the former colonial prison which finally closed in 1932. Once known as the 'hell hole of the South Pacific' it is now a national park and can be visited as part of a day trip cruise to the island. It was Queensland's first historic national park. Tours of the ruins for people arriving by private boat are conducted by park rangers by prior arrangement. St Helena Island is a national park of extreme historical value. Therefore only day trippers are allowed on the island but no overnight camping.

Coochiemudlo Island
Coochiemudlo Island boasts more than four kilometres of beautiful safe beaches, which are ideal for the kids. It has been called 'the jewel of Moreton Bay'. Take a stroll along one of the beaches and enjoy the peace, maybe do a spot of fishing, and then cook your catch on one of the free electric barbecues. If you are feeling more energetic, away from the beaches are tennis courts, a croquet green, a cricket field and a golf course.
